Bandeja Paisa: A Little Bit of Everything Delicious in Colombia

During my last day in Bogota, my tour guides highly recommended that I try to eat bandeja paisa, a popular dish in Colombian cuisine. Bandeja paisa is unique in that it’s a tray consisting of a hodgepodge of traditional Colombian foods. Mine consisted of a stew of red beans cooked in pork, white rice, ground meat, plantains, avocado, chorizo, and arepas. But different regions of Colombia serve their Paisa with different foods.

I enjoyed my bandeja paisa at the famous Andres D.C. restaurant in Bogota. It’s the downtown location of the even more popular Andres Carne De Res restaurant located an hour away and Chia and spans a whopping seven square kilometers! Andres D.C. itself is a spectacle; the restaurant is four stories with the appearance of what I can only describe as a colorful, raucous, Applebee’s on steroids.
