Halva: A Middle Eastern Confection

During my visit to Israel, I would commonly come across these “loaves” (for lack of a better term) of sweets that I would soon learn is halva. Halva is a confection found in many countries in the Middle East, but in Israel, is made from ground sesame seeds and sugar or honey and comes in many flavors. It would seem like an appropriate food to be eaten as a snack or dessert, but I almost always saw halva for breakfast. Interestingly, halva doesn’t require refrigeration and was commonly found outside in the open-air markets. Super yummy!
