Mote Con Huesillo: The Summer Drink of Chile

When the weather heats up along the western edge of South America, Chileans line up to buy a cup of a tasty beverage called mote con huesillo. If you know Spanish, then you can already guess what’s in this popular summer drink: sweetened peaches cooked in sugar water and cinnamon, and mixed with husked wheat.

The drink was an overload of the senses: it was very sweet, but refreshing with the peaches. The wheat was an interesting addition and is eaten with a spoon.

Mote con huesillo was such an interesting and special drink to try, and it’s very distinctly Chilean. It even has its own idiom: “Más chileno que el mote con huesillo,” or “More Chilean than a mote con huesillo.”
