This post is part of a series for the country of Chile

Piure is a filter-feeding sea organism that is a delicacy in Chile. It resembles an alien-like mass of organs that are often found clinging to rocks.

My brother and I ordered a plate of piure for about $8 USD at one of the restaurants in the Mercado Central de Santiago.

Taste was extremely strong, like iodine, and the onions and cilantro did little to mask the taste.

TRAVELER TIP: Very few restaurants in the Mercado Central de Santiago accept credit cards, so bring cash!
