Wandie’s Place: Local South African Soweto Cuisine

During a private bespoke tour of Soweto, a predominantly poor, black township within the city of Johannesburg, we stopped for lunch at Wandie’s Place, a popular restaurant that serves traditional, local cuisine.

Specialties include umngqusho (a seasoned corn and bean stew), morogo (wild spinach) and chakalaka (a simple, spicy dish of onions, tomatoes and beans).

An excellent way to get a taste of the local cuisine which differs greatly from the food found around wealthier Joburg communities.
